Varanus komodoensis. Equipped with long claws, strong jaws, sharp jagged teeth, the ability to run quickly in short bursts make the largest living lizard a natural predator. Living in an isolated area, this carnivore is at the top of its food chain, taking down prey as large as water buffalo, deer, wild pigs and occasionally man. The male Komodo Dragon can grow up to 10 feet and weigh over 500 pounds.

Why catch a Komodo Dragon?

As fascinating as this real dinosaur may be... why the interest from Terry M. Fredeking, an Expeditionary Biologist from Texas? The answer lies in the mouth of the dragon that is not venomous. Komodo saliva has a very high content of bacteria which can kill its prey with one bite even if it manages to escape. Dragons rarely interact as a group except during meals. During the dining process they often bite one another, but amazingly the deadly bacteria does not harm the dragons.

To Terry's team of scientists, it is obvious the Komodo Dragon possesses antibodies that other animals do not. What better reason to set sails to Komodo Island? Want to know more? Email Terry!
